Poets & Astronauts

All the poets laugh at the astronauts
'Cause they can get real high on just one great thought
The light shines better
On one side than on the other

I'm flippin' through the pictures in my calendar
And I'm givin' bad luck the middle finger
'Cause they all look better
With one eye in the future

The TV speaks in multicolor
Of the folks who died for the country dollar
But the colors shine better
On one side than on the other

The girl upstairs with the funky figure
Believes her dreams are her only failure
She says the light shines brighter
On one side than on the other

We feel the weight of a thousand feathers
Writing these anonymous letters
To the people we know
And the light, it glows, it glows, it glows

Poets die and astronauts
Have great wives and live till they rot
The light shines better
On one side or the other

If I had one wish to confide
I would wish my way to the brighter side
